How To Minimize The Effects Of Endometriosis

One of the more common threats that leave women with extreme discomfort and pain is endometriosis. The effects of endometriosis vary from one woman to another and are usually dependent on the severity of the condition.

Endometriosis is a chronic condition that affects women (it is rarely seen in men and only when they are undergoing treatment for prostate cancer).

It happens when the endometrial tissues that line the inside of the uterus grow in places they shouldn't. This misplacing of endometrial tissue commonly occurs in the pelvic area, although it is possible to see these growths in the intestines, lungs, spine and even in the brain, although rarely.

When the abnormal growth occurs, pain and discomfort will be felt. This can be heightened during the menstrual and pre-menstrual cycles and can contribute to a feeling of constant fatigue.

When the uterine lining is shed each month, the same process occurs in the misplaced endometrium cells. However, when the cells are in the pelvic cavity there is no place for the menstrual fluid to go. This causes inflammation and scarring and over time, adhesions and cysts can form.

The symptoms that result from endometriosis developing can alter the lifestyle of a woman, not to mention the way she thinks about herself. The effects of endometriosis can go to the extent of making bowel movements a painful event and leave the sufferer with constant back pain. This can be very frustrating to any woman who wants to live a normal life.

The effects of endometriosis don't stop there, they can also interfere in the intimate relationships of a woman. There is the possibility that sexual intercourse will be very painful. Even if the woman conceals the pain to her partner, the partner can still discover it because it is possible to bleed.

Endometriosis can definitely affect the sexual activities of woman with the condition. It will not only frustrate her, but can also affect the way her partner reacts to the situation. So, for many women finding ways to deal with endometriosis symptoms can be for many reasons.

Right now there is no direct solution that will eradicate endometriosis completely. Once it sets in, the effects can only be minimized. Thus, it is important to know the various ways to address the problem.

There are surgical options, usually laparoscopy is recommended to remove endometrial implants and adhesions. This can provide relief for a period, but the relief may not last forever as the endometriosis can return.

Hormonal treatments are another option. These seek to reduce the amount of estrogen in the body, which controls the ability for pregnancy. Birth control pills are a common form of hormonal treatment.

Taking NSAID's can bring pain relief. They can contain both anti-inflammatory properties as well as being analgesics.

Natural methods can also be effective. Acupuncture has proven successful for many women seeking to alleviate pain. Massage, aromatherapy and adjusting your diet can also provide relief from endometriosis symptoms.
