What is hypnosis? The dictionary defines hypnosis as an artificially induced state of mind that resembles sleep. An individual under this state of mind is usually receptive to suggestions and ideas. It is a special form of communication to the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is the place where habits are formed and where memory is stored. Nowadays, hypnosis is generating interest as a means of healing the individual from various ailments by going into his subconscious mind to investigate the original cause of his ailments. This is called regression. The individual is coached into entering the hypnotic state where subconscious mind is returned to the original cause surrounding negative habits and behavior. When the original cause of the ailment has been identified, only then can a treatment approach be developed. This is done by reprogramming the thoughts so as to release of negative emotions and habits.

Hypnosis is also considered to be a natural state of mind which is somewhere between the sleep state and awareness. For example, you are driving along a familiar route; every conscious turn you make is similar to the hypnotic state. 90% of memory is stored in the subconscious mind. This is why some people experience emotions of anger, pain, fear, happiness upon seeing objects associated with these emotions. So what does an individual feel when under the hypnotic state? People who have experienced being hypnotized say the feeling is pleasant. The mind and body are both in a relaxed state similar to the moment when you are about to fall asleep. People with deep-seated emotional problems are the ones that usually undergo hypnosis. They undergo a minimum of 3-5 several sessions with their therapist before a complete resolution of their problem is reached.

Almost anyone can practice hypnosis. Concentration is needed to achieve a hypnotic state of mind. Since hypnosis is part of the natural state of mind there are no side effects. There have been no cases of people, after having been hypnotized, who were unable to return to their natural state of mind. Even in the hypnotic state, the hypnotized person is still aware of his surroundings and behavior.

As mentioned previously, hypnosis can be beneficial for people with deep-seated emotional problems. The minds of individuals under the hypnotized state are receptive to ideas suggestions. This receptiveness to suggestions is used to change undesirable patterns of behavior and habits into desirable habits and behavior. Troubled minds are instructed to relax and let go of negative memories, which have been the cause of destructive habits and behavior. Under the hypnotic state, negative emotions linked to negative experiences are reprogrammed. When the subconscious mind has accepted the suggested idea, positive changes will occur in the conscious level.
Hypnosis is a powerful method to use to access the power of the subconscious mind. It can help improve health so that the person feels more energetic. Positive suggestions to the subconscious mind under the hypnotic state help the individual make positive, permanent changes that help him emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually.
