Lasik eye surgery can give a person 20/20 vision, but not all patients will end up with 20/20 vision. Statistics show that lasik insight correction has more than a 90% success rate, however it is also known that only 55% of patients actually achieve 20/20 vision. For a lasik procedure to be deemed a success, a patient should achieve 20/40 vision after the procedure and healing process is complete.Because of this, its important to weigh the pros and cons of the Lasik procedure. You would hate to spend a great deal of money and time, go through a long recovery process, and still end up wearing glasses or contacts!
First off, you should not believe any advertisements that guarantee 20/20 vision. This is simply a claim that cannot be achieved, in all cases. So, the doctors that claim such a success rate should be immediately eliminated from your list.
A decision to have lasik insight correction performed must be based on each people requirements. Not everyone is a candidate for the procedure. There have been recent advances that are allowing the correction to be done a much broader range of vision types. So discuss your options with the doctor of your choice- a good doctor will give you the facts and tell you NO if they don't think it will work for your particular case.
Getting lasik surgery is not a decision that should be taken lightly, lasik complications can occur. The actual procedure is quick and generally painless. Lasik Complications are usually during the recovery. Nearly all patients describe recovery as a few days in length, however it is vital to realize that a full recovery will take about 6 months. During your recovery period it very necessary to be aware of any of the complications that your doctor describes to you. Report anything out of the ordinary to your doctor as soon as possible. Taking care of these types of problems usually depends on quick action.
When choosing a doctor, you should do your home work spend an extra bit of time finding the right doctor for you. Remember this decision is one you will live with for the rest of your life. You should never feel pressured by a doctor and you should feel like he has time to answer all your questions. Remember, Answering questions is a major part of a doctors position. If he is not good at this can he be trusted with your eyesight.
