Losing Stubborn Belly Fat

The area of the body that most people would like to change is the abdomen. Everyone would love to have a firm, flat, sexy stomach. Not only is a flat stomach sexy, it is also one of the most important keys to staying healthy for the rest of your life.

Where the fat on your body is distributed can determine whether you are at greater risk for diabetes and heart disease. Those who contain more fat in their abdomen are at a greater risk than those who contain more fat in their hips, buttocks, and thighs. The reason for this is fat stored in your midsection, a fat known as visceral fat, is stored in and around your organs. The fat around your hips and thighs is stored just below the skin and is known as subcutaneous fat.

So how do you get rid of stubborn belly fat? Eating right and exercising regularly. A combination of strength training and aerobic exercise along with the right nutrition plan is the best way to get rid of that stubborn belly fat. Doing hundreds of crunches just won't cut it. In order to burn fat, you need to burn more calories than you are taking in. For example, to lose one pound you have to burn 3,500 more calories than your BMR (basil metabolic rate - number of calories burned over 24 hours) is. That is 500 calories less a day than your BMR.
