Losing Weight: The correct version

We spent quite some time on near accurate or best of knowledge advice on weight loss and now we are a bit impatient. Overall weight management, so far, has not been the way as some of us possibly want.

Upon this context, we may recall an old brainteaser: Which is heavier? A pound of lead or a pound of bread? Obviously, when they are a pound each, the answer is neither. Then why it doesn’t get into the senses of the calorie-freaks? 500g of lettuce shall differ with 500g of chocolate in calorific values, but 500 calories of lettuce and 500 calories of chocolate are same. Once that’s cleared, you have won half the battle.

For it shall help you keep check on the calories entering you versus the amount you are burning. Special weight loss diets just do that; the food chosen in such diets have lesser than average calorie intake of a person. Else, it’s far healthier if you bend your preferences on food a little and put more emphasis on increasing your activity levels. Besides burning the calories, it shall give your heart, lungs, muscles, bones and the immune system a fresh lease of life. An enhanced mental health, too. However, the treadmill won’t do; if it takes 30 minutes for an average individual to burn calories present in a single doughnut, think about the bigger picture.

Next is outgrowing the habit most parents induce into their children. Once you feel full, bin the rest instead of clearing the plate. As for fighting thirst or getting refreshed, water and coffee are just fine; if you think diet sodas are a solution, you shall be inviting several increased metabolic malfunction syndromes, cardiac disorders, diabetes and strokes to be precise.

Even leaving that, the sweetness in diet sodas initiate insulin spikes and stops natural fat breakdown besides nullifying the “I’m full” signal from the brain. The insulin spikes indicate cells to absorb sugar from the bloodstream, which stops lipolysis (breaking the fat down to obtain the energy) and curbs HSL (hormone sensitive lipase) levels in blood. The fat gets released into the bloodstream to be utilized as fuel; if there is fuel available readily, the reserves are not used.
