Lower Cholesterol With Drugs The Natural Way

There are two forms of protein which circulate around your bloodstream carrying cholesterol around your body. One is called LDL (low density lipoprotein)and is bad for your arteries and the other is HDL (high density lipoprotein)and this is deemed to be good cholesterol. High levels of LDL are one of the main factors for heart attacks and disease. You can, however, lower your cholesterol without drugs naturally.

Traditionally Dr's treat high levels of LDL with medication. The most common ones are statins, which can have adverse side effects. High cholesterol can be in part down to genetics. But lifestyle can influence a major part of this also, particularly a lifestyle which is sedentary and a diet high in fat.

By adapting your lifestyle to a more healthier one will do a lot to raise healthy HDL levels and lower dangerous LDL's. Firstly lose weight and keep the weight off. Cut out fat from your diet, especially saturated fats as this does the most damage to your arteries. Taking steps to lower your stress levels, cut out smoking and only drink a moderate amount of alcohol.

Taking regular exercise is also a proven way to treat high cholesterol. Anything aerobic that makes your heart work harder is very effective; although care should be taken when embarking upon an exercise programme for the first time. Always consult your Dr first.

Certain types of food are found to have a proven beneficial effect on the lowering the bad cholesterol.

Turmeric - A member of the ginger root family, it has long been used for treating heart related problems. It has the added effect of thinning the blood. 900mg once or twice a day is required for maintaining a healthy heart.

Fibre - Lowers cholesterol by stopping it from entering into your bloodstream. It is better to take fibre supplements as a high fibre diet will result in bloating and indigestion.

Niacin - In high doses, 1, 000mg taken three times a day, this vitamin B3 will help the overall health of your heart by lowering all types of blood fats which contribute to heart disease. There are well documented side effects from taking the vitamin at this level for prolonged periods of time.

Soya - A diet rich in soya is a very effective, natural way to prevent heart disease. It helps to prevent blood clots forming and raises the level of HDL. It is also an effective antioxidant. Fermented soy products are the only ones of benefit in your diet.
