Lyme Disease: The Three Main Symptoms You Should Be Aware Of

Posted: Nov 08, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Lyme disease may not be fatal, but if not treated early, may result in a very difficult conditions that will last the rest of your life. Prevent getting Lyme Disease (which can cause major health complications) by watching for certain symptoms following a tick bite.

Keep an eye out for a reddish rash or influenza-like symptoms

Early indications, such as rash, fever, muscle and joint pain, headache and chills, may not be recognized as Lyme Disease. If you develop a rash near the area of the tick bite and the onset of flu-like symptoms, you should consult a doctor immediately. While the rash may become bigger and spread out, other signs that are similar to those of the flu remain for a longer period. Be sure to bring your symptoms to the attention of your doctor in order to ensure that appropriate treatment is received. Doctor-prescribed antibiotics will generally be able to deal with Lyme disease in the early stages of the infection.

Check out your annoying joint aches

There are other patients who do not experience the early signs of Lyme disease. You may not be aware that the infection is spreading and getting worse inside you when you start feeling muscle and joint pains. If joint pain is not treated immediately, it can get inflamed over time and lead to chronic arthritis. It would be best to talk with your doctor if any of these pains start happening after a tick bite.

Keep the neurological symptoms in mind

If Lyme disease is left untreated, neurological indications usually appear. These symptoms consist of numb feelings in the arms and legs, poor concentration and loss of memory, a stiff neck, and also paralyzed facial nerves. In the later stage of Lyme disease fainting and heart problems occur in addition to other previously mentioned neurological symptoms.

See your doctor if you develop any signs of illness after a tick bite. Go for a check up and diagnosis even without the red rash and other signs that usually indicate Lyme disease so you can immediately obtain proper treatment. Signs and symptoms of Lyme disease may vary greatly from person to person. Others show a few signs, while some patients with other existing diseases show more signs of Lyme disease. Additional symptoms to watch for are throat soreness, pain of the jaw, inflammation of the eye, infection in the ear and issues with the liver.
