Natural Anti Aging Skin Care - 5 Choices You Need To Make

In this article I will address basic lifestyle choices anyone can make in order to experience marked improvement in the health and quality of their skin, apart from the use of any anti aging skin care product.

1 - Choose a Good Diet

A good diet is essential to good health in general, so it only makes sense that healthy skin depends on good nutrition as well. In fact, few of the choices we make will have more of a beneficial and lasting effect on the health of our skin than our dietary choices do. Feeding our skin the nutrients it needs to remain healthy is one of the most effective ways of stopping aging in its tracks and insuring the quality our skin.

A good diet for healthy skin begins with eating plenty of green, leafy vegetables. Our skin ages because of damage caused by highly destructive molecules known as free radicals. Vegetables such as broccoli and spinach contain powerful antioxidants that decrease the production of free radicals and reduce the signs of aging, thus keeping our skin looking young and healthy.

Vitamins, too, play a vital role in fighting aging's effect on your skin, and one of the most important anti aging vitamins is Vitamin A. Vitamin A helps to remove toxins from the body, fight the effects of free radical damage, promote healthy cell development, and fight off bacteria and viruses, all of which benefits the skin. Good sources of Vitamin A include spinach, carrots, apricots, mango, and various meats.

2 - Choose to Drink Plenty of Water

As with a good diet, drinking plenty of water is essential to good health in general. And it is particularly important for maintaining healthy skin.

Our bodies are composed of more than 70% water, and our skin is the largest organ in the body. To help keep your skin hydrated, which is vital to the health of your skin, you need to drink about 8 glasses of filtered or purified water each day. This alone is one of the most effective, yet simple, tips for natural anti aging skin care.

3 - Choose to Exercise Regularly and Get Proper Rest

The benefits to the skin of proper exercise must not be underestimated, as regular and consistent exercise serves to improve blood circulation and remove toxins from the body. Fortunately, for most, a little goes a long way in this area and all that's required to see some visible results is adding a little extra physical activity to your daily routine. For example, you could try walking up the stairs instead of taking the elevator, parking your car at the far end of the parking lot instead of near the entrance, or even walking to the store instead of taking the car at all.

Of course proper rest is essential, too, and contributes greatly to skin health. This means getting about 8 hours of sleep each night, which will help you get the optimum benefit from your diet and exercise efforts.

4 - Choose to Avoid Over Exposure to the Sun

While some exposure to the sun is beneficial and necessary for good health (because it helps our bodies with the production of Vitamin D), over exposure to the sun tends to damage the skin and accelerate the effects of aging. This is because too much sun exposure leads to free radical damage and reduces the production of hyaluronan, a necessary component in the repair of skin tissue. Use sunscreen if you must spend a lot of time outside in the sun, but make sure it doesn't contain alcohol since alcohol will dry out your skin even more.

5 - Choose to Quit Smoking

The most important choice you need to make when it comes to natural anti aging skin care is to quit smoking. Smoking ages your skin like nothing else does by destroying collagen, which is so important to your skin's elasticity. Smoking also restricts blood flow in the skin, reducing its ability to absorb vital nutrients and causing it to dry out.

All of this leads to premature wrinkling of the skin, even in young smokers, which is why smokers often appear older than they are. If you smoke you are literally aging before your time, and there is no anti aging skin care product that will prevent it from happening.

Is this damage reversible? Yes, but only if you quit smoking today. If you do your skin's healthy appearance can be restored in just a few years, which is why any plan of natural anti aging skin care must begin with the choice to quit smoking.

The first approach to anti aging skin treatment should be a natural one. This means we simply need to start taking better care of ourselves - choosing to eat healthier, to drink plenty of water, to get enough exercise and rest, to avoid too much sun, and to quit smoking.
