Astron Clinica has launched new telemedicine system called 2nd Opinion to supports remote clinical assistance and diagnosis for SIAscopy. It works by enabling the secure transport of SIAscans and additional relevant information using Adobe Acrobat PDF technology.
The new technology is designed to make it as easy as possible for patients to receive expert opinion, and for experts to maximise the best use of their time.
A clinical specialist can review a patients lesions despite being many miles away from the patient, making it easier for patients to secure the clinical opinion of their choice. Thus, avoiding wasted clinic and patient time by providing expert advise as to the need to attend a specialist dermatology clinic.
2nd Opinion ensures the best practice of security is maintained as patient records move between scanning
and assessment.
It also monitors progress and returns and records a diagnosis or opinion with the patient's records in a controlled, timely manner. This workflow management keeps the clinic and the remote expert synchronised and keeps delay and cost to a minimum.
Besides, it packages together detailed information comprising SIAscans, clinical photographs and patient history for despatch to the remote expert.
"This is an exciting new product that research shows will be very valuable to users of SIAscopy," Annie Brooking, CEO Astron Clinica said. 'I believe that one day, it will be common for everyone to have a stored series of SIAscans showing the health of their skin over their lifetime."
