It is well known that during the period of pregnancy, all expectant mothers increase in weight considerably as they are carrying the body weight of the would-be born child as well and she has to consume much more nutritious food and nutrients for the growth and benefit of the child. Even after the mother has given birth to the infant, a considerable portion of the excess weight gained remains. But it is advisable to all mothers that they should not try to indulge into any kind of rapid weight loss program immediately after giving birth and it is usually suggested by the medical practitioners that after 2 to 3 months post childbirth the mother can decide on weight loss. This is because delivering a baby is a grueling and tiring process and therefore the mother requires adequate rest before attempting weight loss. According to researchers, it is estimated that women gain around 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy of which about 12 to 14 pounds is itself lost during childbirth. The remaining amount of the excess weight can be lost easily within a period of maximum 8 months to enable her to return to her former shape before pregnancy. However, it is always to be borne in mind that before in indulging in any kind is weight loss program, it is necessary for the woman to consult a physician and then a fitness trainer to ensure whether her body is prepared for such a regimen.

There are several effective means by following which it is possible to lose excess weight post-pregnancy. Firstly it is suggested that one must not begin exercising rigorously the very first day. They should begin with exercising for shorter durations and stop immediately if there is any shortness of breath or dizziness. The rate of exercising should be increased gradually. In fact, the best option is to enjoy a long brisk walk which is extremely beneficial for weight loss. Apart from walking, other comfortable exercising options include yoga and swimming. No vigorous exercising regimen should be allowed post pregnancy. It is known that one of the most effective means of losing weight is through breast feeding. This is due to several factors. In such cases, loss of calories occurs as a natural process. During pregnancy about 500 calories of extra caloric energy required to be saved in the body for the feeding of the baby. As a result of breast feeding, a considerable proportion of these calories are expelled in the form of milk aiding weight loss.
