Having the right diet is probably the most important part of your weight loss because if you don't follow your diet you will basically be sabotaging your own success.
I have seen people go to the gym for months and they didn't lose nearly as much weight as they had hoped because they didn't adjust their diet. Some people think that all they have to do is to start exercising daily and everything will fall into place. However the reality is you need to change your eating habits because if you don't you'll only end up eating more because you'll be hungrier after that intense round of exercise. If you exercise and eat more you will see some results, but the results you see may not be what you had hoped for.
This is why it's imperative you change your diet and maybe even introduce a few totally new meals. The main problem with how most people eat is their meals are too high in carbohydrates. It's not just the fats that are responsible for their weight; it's the bad carbs that many of us consume at nearly every single meal.
Simply put, our body uses carbohydrates for fuel and if you aren't burning that fuel it will store it as fat and this is how you'll get those love handles or excess fat in other areas of your body.
Most of those bad carbohydrates in our regular diets come from bread which is unfortunately a type of food that we eat at almost every single meal. Because our body uses carbohydrates as a fuel you have to be active for your body to burn that fuel. It is a good idea to drastically reduce carb intake in your diet.
However we all know it's easy to say things like that but it's a whole different story actually trying to get rid of bread or pasta from our meals. If you have made a decision to fix this part of your life once and for all then at least the start of your new plan shouldn't be too tough and after you've been doing it for a while it's only a matter of keeping yourself motivated.

When you have determined your needed caloric intake for maintenance just cut it by about 200 calories and keep monitoring your success. This way you'll know if this plan is working for you or if you need to tweak it.
Proper diet and exercise will go a long way to help you achieve the results you want.
