If you're on a quest for weight loss, there's no doubt you've heard horror stories of all sorts on the ways people have tried to lose weight. For those who considered stomach-stapling surgeries, it may be about scarring or infections, of others who went on crash diets but failed miserably. How safe are the things people are doing to try and lose weight?
There is concern that some people are willing to do whatever it takes, at whatever price to lose weight. While overall we are a part of an overweight society, 2006 statistics state approximately 200,000 bariatric procedures were performed in the United States in that one year. In some cases, doctors recommend it, for those who are morbidly obese, and their life is threatened by the weight, but not as a general weight loss plan.
Nutrition experts are also concerned about the trend and are urging people to not jump to rash decisions before they have seen all the other weight loss avenues available to them. They believe that for most of the people who believe they are out of hope, the solution is really some simple lifestyle changes.
Before you begin any diet, the best thing you can do is talk to your doctor or a dietician about your plan. Let them know what kinds you diet meals you are considering, as well as any exercise plans or other weight loss ideas you may have. They will give you intelligent advice on what may be good or bad for your body.
If you do sit down and talk to a nutritionist or dietician, chances are they are going to tell you to add more fiber to your diet. A high fiber diet is often enough to trigger weight loss, by making you feel full sooner, and helping the body eliminate waste more regularly. But it is also full of a number of other healthy side effects such as benifiting heart health. Fire also comes in two forms, soluble and insoluble. The best for weight loss is soluble.
Soluble fiber disolves in water and becomes a gel-like substance. Firstly, that makes you feel full, and may stop you from overeating. Then it will suck up other water soluble materials in your system and removes them from the body as waste. This could include excess cholesterol. Foods like oats, acacia and fruit pectin are those with water soluble fiber.
This is the fiber flush, where it's believed that for each gram of fiber you eat, 7 calories are flushed out of your body. Brenda Watson, digstive care expect and author of The Fiber35 Diet says the more fiber you take in, the more calories you are going to naturally flush out as waste. In addition, Audrey Eyton, Author of The F-Plan Diet states that higg fiber diets encourage natural weight loss by keeping a healthy schedule for bowel movements.
Unfortnately most Americans don't eat nearly as much fiber as they should. While the National Insitutes of Health recommendation of 20-35 grams of fiber daily for each adult, the majority of Americans only eat half of the fiber they should. But when it comes to dieting, do the match, using the fiber flush formula, each gram of fiber removes 7 calories. That means if you eat those 35 grams of fiber, you could see weight loss of 2 lbs per month thanks to the extra fiber.
When you're thinking of weight loss, think of safety. Surgery and other drastic measures are not, and should not be, for everyone. Instead, try high fiber foods coupled with a healthy diet and exercise, and see the change.
