It's good news for Americans; more and more obese people are turning to fruits and veggies for slimming down. They have suddenly lost interest in low carbohydrate diets. A recent survey by the American Institute of Cancer Research saw four out of five health conscious people pick salads and fruits to satiate hunger.
The obesity levels in US is fast growing and a diet change among people who are overweight or obese sound good news to the health experts trying to battle Obesity. Many fad diets advertise on TV or the net and win a lot of obese diet planners. Some times they complete the diet program, lose weight and put on almost double the weight they had. Few others leave it half way through. And lots of them get bored eating food low in carbs or high in proteins all the time. With fruits and vegetables, the scope is certainly wider
Do Fruits and Veggies help weight loss?
Hundred percent. You can add a fruit as the snack of the day and thus skip high calorie fried snacks during day time. When you are having lunch, a salad starter would fill you up fast. In this diet you are not restricted to any particular food type but are free to have everything in moderation. What is striking is that salads at the beginning of a meal help you eat less for the main course and fruits before the desserts protect you from overdoing the sweet intake. Not all, both salads and fruits are good for your health and supply nutrients in the form of minerals and vitamins.
While following some diet programs which are based on high proteins or low carbs, you miss out on many nutrients which your body needs. Sometimes you suffer from malnutrition as well. The fruit and vegetable diet has no side effects and adding beans and whole grains to the diet can only make you healthy. They are high in fiber and low in calories. Fruits and veggies give you a feeling of fullness without consuming food high in fat or calories. They also protect you against chronic diseases like cancer.
The Obesity threat
Health organizations worldwide are taking drastic steps to control the obesity epidemic. Childhood obesity is another budding tension for the health experts. Parents should encourage the children to consume more salads and fruits in their day to day diet. Children should not survive on high fat cheesy burgers and shakes. It is good to see that certain burger joints are taking an extra effort to add low fat burgers and food to the menus. Isn't it time we got together and made a difference by encouraging low calorie food at home and by helping children get addicted to the healthy fruits and salads.
