In the United States of America , a huge percentage of around 65% of the adult population is grossly overweight and while about 50 million individuals undertake to lose weight each year, only a meager 5% succeed in this attempt finally. There are various causes behind this but the most important cause is definitely the fact that most people are lured by the scores of quick weight loss pills and products available in the markets which are under most circumstances ineffective and useless. While it is true that the most effective means of weight loss definitely by means of having a balanced diet and a regular exercising regimen, evidences prove that surgical procedures are also immensely successful in aiding weight loss. Abdominoplasty is a very prevalent surgical procedure employed in the reduction of weight. It is true that weight loss surgeries re quite effective but it is to be borne in mind that weight loss surgeries are not suitable for all and therefore before indulging in a surgical procedure it is necessary for the individual to ensure that the process of abdominoplasty is appropriate for him or not. Abdominoplasty refers to the process by which the excessive fatty tissues and muscles that are accumulated around the abdomen region are removed by a surgeon and in most cases this is carried out by a plastic surgeon. Therefore, all those who are bothered by the accumulation of body fat around the abdomen region can definitely bank on this surgical procedure for the reduction of body weight. However, it is necessary to keep in mind that only if a person is sufficiently obese or overweight, then only abdominoplasty is a possible option. If the medical practitioners feel that the weight gain in a person is not enough to require a surgical procedure, then abdominoplasty will not be allowed. This is understood by means of carrying out a small test in order to determine the proportion of fat deposition around the abdomen. Apart from this, it is also ensured by the surgeon that the patients existing health conditions are conducive to the carrying out of the surgery and this is done by carrying out a series of medical examinations.

There are certain risk factors too in case of abdominoplasty surgical procedure and this is usually related to those patients who are addicted to smoking or nicotine intake. In other cases, it has been found that after the surgery the area where the surgery has been carried out remains afflicted by severe pain which takes long time to subside.
