Symptoms of Anxiety, Signs of Anxiety

A lot of people ask the question “What are the symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks?”. Sometimes you know that you are feeling something but do not know if it actually qualifies as a panic attack or anxiety attack but just know that it does not feel great. Fortunately there is a system set in place to measure whether you are officially having one. It is called the DSM-IV system.

Several thousand years ago, Doug and Thug the cavemen were both after a particular beautiful woman in the tribe. They knew it was one or the other and they would have to fight to get her. So both of their bodies prepared their muscles because they felt the imminent threat of pain or death. It sends the blood in your body from your brain to your muscles so you can be ready to run or to fight. This also happens with women as they can feel the closeness of death also.

Anxiety is defined as a feeling which points out apprehension, dread, nervousness, worry, or fear. Typically, the fears or worries felt by a person who suffers from an anxiety disorder are not governed by the rational standards. Most of the times, these perceptions are actually unjustifiable. By means of this disorder, a person suffers in more ways than one. His sleep pattern is often disturbed and the rest of his normal functions are affected. Anxiety can likewise take place even without a distinct cause to blame but there are times when the fear or worry is based on a real life scenario that is often blown up.

Anxiety is an affective response that is subjectively experienced as a reaction to either an internal or external pressure, whether it is real or just a product of one’s imagination. Oftentimes, it is experienced as a painful, indistinct awkwardness, or scattered apprehension. It can also be a form of an energy, whose presence is incidental from its effect on attention, learning, behavior and perception.

Treating your dizziness can often be something simple like controlling your breathing. Are you hyperventilating? Hyperventilation can lead directly to dizziness. A good trick is to learn “deep-breathing”, or breathing with your diaphragm. The diaphragm is a very powerful muscle located below your stomach, and once you gain control over this muscle you will be able to get very relaxed just by taking long, slow, deep breaths. Breathing from your chest produces shallow breaths, which can lead to dizziness if you accidentally go too quickly.

Several treatments for anxiety are available now. In the past it was different. For many the treatments available was alcohol or suicide, or confinement to a jail or mental institution. The first thing for the anxiety sufferer is to recognize he or she has a problem that needs addressing. Then to take the steps necessary to begin a treatment plan. For many, councelling has been a great help. Self help groups are available almost anywhere now and talking to others with the same predicament can be a relief in itself.
