Some of the restorative procedures that can be recommended to a patient include dentures, bridges as well as dental implants, this last procedure overstay permanent solution to people who have lost a tooth for any reason, other restorative methods can also be used in order to complement the effects of an implant for instance, an implant can be applied in order to complement and support a crown or a dental bridge which are put in place in case multiple teeth are missing, the same thing can be said about dentures because implants can't make them more stable and at the same time they can also reduce gum irritation.
Advances in technology have allowed more and more patients to become candidates for dental implants, the development of narrower many implants have also become possible however, whether or not your candidate for an implant is up to your dentist to decide if you're oral condition calls for such treatment.
In addition, dentists do not need a special license or notification in order to perform implant dentistry because the education they received makes them fully qualified to do so, in some cases general dentist do refer such patients to a specialist such as a restorative dentist or a prosthodontist. Oral surgeons or Periodontists are also qualified to perform surgical implants.
Today's dental implants are almost indistinguishable from the rest of our teeth. The aesthetic appearance is complemented by the structural and functional connection between the dental implant and the living bone. In most cases, this procedures are completed in a single step however, they do require some time in order for the bone and tissue to adapt to new implant.
The process in which the bone and tissue adapts to the new piece is called Osseointegration, during this process the parts which become involved in the adaptation are the dental implant root, the jaw and the supporting bone. Osseointegrated implants are the most commonly used and successful type of dental implant. In order for this procedure to be considered successful it is a required to allow three to six months in order for the bonding process to occur, once the piece has anchored with the jawbone the dentist might place an additional prosthesis to complement and finalize the structure.

Implant after lumpectomy?
By: adele | 19-07-2008
I had a lumpectomy in October 2006 and a second surgery two weeks later to remove additional tissue. Following the surgeries I had radiation. I am soon to mark two years with clean follow ups. As a result of my surgeries and treatments, however, my right breast is significantly smaller than my left. I wear an implant in my bra for symmetry. I have recently started thinking about having surgery to correct the imbalance. I am thinking an implant in the affected breast and I would probably require a lift for the other breast. Has any body gone through something like that - any thoughts on the subject?

Dental implant maintenance
By: mrun92229 | 16-07-2008
I have recenty had tree implants placed. I asked the surgeon aobut the implant maintenance program. He told the mthat the hygieinist does most of it. She cleans your teeth and implants every three months. I asked aobut Xrays and was told that I would have one more full set and after that my general dentist could take them. I am wondering if this is adequate for implant maintenance. If so what should I ask aobut the plan.
