This Halloween Beware of Too Much Candy

Rising candy sales this Halloween season could contribute to rising tooth problems. Despite the 500 million visits to Bay area dentists last year, tooth decay remains a significant problem Americans spending more money on candy this Halloween could increase job security for dentists. Candy and sweets is proven to lead to tooth decay and painful cavities, a problem affecting millions of people.

While children are filling their mouths with candy; parents and dentists are cringing at what the aftermath may hold. Candy and other sweets are especially harmful. Damaging acids form in the mouth every time children eat sugary snacks and continue to affect the teeth for at least 20 minutes before they are neutralized. Bay area dentists predict that 93 percent of children will splurge on sweets this year.

Bay area dentists predict that the dental health field will grow between nine and 17 percent by 2014. Americans made around 500 million visits to dentists and spent an estimated $84 billion on dental services in 2006. Bay area dentists will continue to perform preventive checkups on younger generations, despite fluoridation of the water supply used to decrease the incidence of tooth decay.

“Tooth decay affects more than one-fourth of U.S. children aged 2-5 and half of those aged 12-15; cavities are a common problem that begins at an early age." “More than half of those from low-income backgrounds aged 6-19 years have untreated decay." Bay area dentists say.

Additionally, injuries to the skin can also trigger psoriasis as can skin infections and in some cases, even scratching as the body's T cells (see previous article) may incorrectly see this as a threat and overreact by forming excess skin cells.

A friend asked me to explain why the Dead Sea is so good for psoriasis. Well, the explanation may get a bit technical but here it goes. Nobody knows what causes psoriasis and there is no known cure. But, ever since the days of Cleopatra, people have been coming to the Dead Sea because of the healing effect it has on psoriasis, eczema and the pains of rheumatism.
