When discount dental plans first came on the market around 20 years ago I, like many other people, was skeptical of them. I thought that they'd be a flash in the pan, especially since the only people that were really promoting them at the time were doing so through "Network Marketing" methods, or some so fondly refer to them as "MLM". This company was a bit different, as you could buy the plan without having to join the "business" part of the company, however, many were still skeptical about the idea, especially since these guys were promoting a product that would give people an alternative to traditional insurance. There's simply no way that this idea could ever catch on. Or could it?
Discount dental plans are now THE best option for immediate dental care available, case closed. Dental insurance does not pay for pre-existing conditions and that is the main reason that most people buy a plan in the first place, because they need to have their teeth worked on. We get a tooth ache so few and far between that it's not something that we average income folks can justify spending money on. Health insurance, auto, homeowner's, yes, but dental insurance never seems like a "must have" until your tooth is throbbing with pain or you can't chew your food anymore.
The people that came up with the idea realized this and went on to make a killing promoting discount dental plans. There are now, however, much better plans that what they offer available.
