Transcendental meditation is known to be one of the easiest forms of meditation and takes little time out of your day as well as very little effort. This type of meditation is meant to settle your mind inward and provides a deep sense of restfulness, alertness, and awareness of ones own energy, creativity, and intelligence. Transcendental meditation is so popular because it is one of the meditation types that allows for instant gratification with the first session and an increase in such benefits from the meditation as time goes on. Another commonly enjoyed factor when it comes to transcendental meditation is that the meditator does not have to harbor any particular beliefs in order to practice the technique. Through this type of meditation the meditator can relieve stress through a simple and practical means that can be easily performed by anyone.
The transcendental meditation technique was derived in India and is derivative of the ancient Verdic tradition of enlightenment. The technique was widely introduced to the world approximately fifty years ago and is becoming more and more popular everyday due to its simplicity and the easily attained results.
In order to begin a series of sessions of transcendental meditation the meditator will want to find a quiet place to sit comfortably with very few distractions. This could be in your own living room, in your bedroom, or even in your bathtub while taking a hot, relaxing bath.
Next you will want to close your eyes and direct your body and mind to completely relax. It is important to be completely comfortable in order to attain this level of relaxation.
After attaining relaxation you will then want to take a series of deep breathes in order to allow yourself to feel you body and mind relaxing. Breathe deeply a number of times until you feel the desired result.
The next step is to repeat the mantra you intend to use repeatedly. You should continue to do this for approximately one minute and the mantra should be repeatedly softer and softer throughout the course of that minute.
Next you will continue to repeat the same mantra mentally rather than out loud. The tongue and lips should not form the words of the mantra either, this should be done completely in the mind. The mental repeating of the chosen mantra should continue for a total of twenty minutes, during which time the meditator should focus on the feeling of oneness that they share with the universe.
It is important that the meditator does not consciously concentrate on the mantra but rather lets it flow through the mind with very little effort. This practice should be done twice a day in order to achieve the desired results with each session lasting anywhere from fifteen to twenty minutes. Those who follow these guidelines regularly and as suggested will soon find that they experience a higher level of consciousness, relaxation, and creativity. And as simple as the technique is it can be performed by basically anyone so this is a great form of meditation for beginners.
