The warm weather is here and sunny days invite outdoor activities such as swimming, long walks and volleyball. While you're soaking up the sun, remember to wear sun screen everyday so your skin is properly protected while you play.
Using a sun screen shields your skin from the sun's harmful UV rays to prevent damage to your skin. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective sun screen products have a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or more. A wide variety of products, including moisturizers and makeup, contain sun screen which makes it easy to include in your daily skin care routine.
Although sunny days remind us to wear sun screen, you really need to use it all year long. The sun has incredible reflective powers and snow reflects up to 80 percent of the sun's rays. Even the sand reflects up to 17 percent of the sun's rays, which is why you often find that you sunburn more quickly at the beach.
Besides having an SPF factor of 15 or better, sun screens with aloe help to heal your skin and prevent future damage. Using moisturizers and sun screen that contain aloe adds an additional level of protection to these products. Aloe soothes your skin, keeps it from peeling and infuses essential moisture.
Once you have chosen a sun screen with aloe, apply it liberally all over your body anytime you plan to be exposed to the sun for more than 20 minutes. Even on cloudy days there is sun exposure, so you always need to use a sun screen. The ideal amount of sun screen to use would fill a regular shot glass, so always make sure you are using enough to properly protect your skin. After you have been outdoors in the sun, use a moisturizer with aloe to replenish moisture and heal your skin.
Failing to use a sun screen can cause severe damage to your skin, including premature aging, dark spots and melanoma. Choosing the right sun screen allows you to have fun in the sun with no worries!
