There's been a lot of excitement in recent years with the high protein diets that have become so popular in slimming circles. But if you are about to embark on one yourself, you might want to just take a moment out to consider whether a fowl smelling breath may concern you. That's right, a diet rich in protein can be a major contributor to bad breath, and this might be an issue if you are in a close relationship where a kiss and a cuddle is the norm.
Putting the 'dog breath' issue aside, the most important question most folks want answering regarding high protein diets is do they work? The answer is an emphatic yes. In fact I've never lost weight so consistently as the time I went on one of these diets, and I have to admit the results were impressive.
But then comes the other important question on every new dieter's lips and that is are high protein low carb diets safe? Now there's a question that I'm not qualified to answer, but you will find as many pros as there are cons and visa versa. To be honest, it's not easy to decide, as professional and personal reviews are pretty mixed up and even.
As with any major change to eating and or exercise regimes, it's always a good idea to discuss it with your doctor before commencing on new changes to lifestyle. If you discuss your new plans with a professional first, then you will be better equipped to make and informed decision regarding you new eating routines. For your own piece of mind, you will want to know whether using a high protein diet to safely loose weight, is an option you would consider!
Years ago, many folks got started off on the Atkins diet, and this new alternative healthy eating plan really peaked when expert studies suggested that a diet high in protein had a greater effect on calorie burning than a high carbohydrate low fat diet. There has since been a lot of controversy surrounding this diet and it 'potential' long-term damaging effects on the body, but even to this day, there are as many credible reports to its health benefits as to its damaging ones.
To decide whether high High-protein diets may or may not be the right choice for you, consider the following 4 points.
1. There's a good chance that you will develop a bad breath
2. It's not a one-off crash diet, but a permanent change to your eating.
3. You will have to give up many of your favorite foods (and there are plenty of those to list!)
4. This kind of diet may pose a risk to health according to some leading nutrition experts
