Facial implants are a type of cosmetic surgery that can have a dramatic affect on how a person looks. Facial implants can enhance an area a patient is fond of or help to improve a person’s symmetry. Facial implants can even help to reduce or postpone the need for a face lift. There are three main types of facial implants that a person can undergo, including a cheek implant, lower jaw implant and chin implant.

Cheek Implants

One attribute that seems be common among models and other celebrities is the presence of beautiful, high cheekbones. Cheek implants can help to give a person these high cheekbones, as well as help create symmetry in the face. Cheek implants can be performed on a wide variety of patients.

Some patients seeking cheek implants are young and are simply seeking either improved symmetry or the added beauty that high cheekbones can offer. This type of look has been inspired by models and the effect of a cheek implant can be quite dramatic. However, any person considering this procedure should keep in mind the fact that a cheek implant (or any other cosmetic procedure) will not make you look like another person, they are simply available to improve upon features.

Other patients seeking a cheek implant do so to look younger. As people age, the fatty tissue in the cheeks disappears and skin is left looking saggy and can cause people to look tired and aged. By getting a cheek implant, a person restores a younger look and can even postpone the need for a face lift because the implant can actually lift some of the loose skin to restore the person’s appearance.

Lower Jaw Implants

A lower jaw implant can give the appearance of having a square jaw line, which is typically considered attractive by many people. This type of implant can give more symmetry to a person’s face. This type of procedure takes place very close to the mouth and jaw, so a patient receiving this surgery will need to stay on liquids and very soft foods for at least a couple of weeks after the procedure has been completed. Also, dental work is considered inadvisable for six months or so after surgery.

Chin Implants

A chin implant can give both men and women a more symmetrical appearance. It can make a person’s face look more attractive and help a person look less tired and aged because it balances out the face and can make skin in the area less loose. This is a particularly popular surgery among men because it can give the appearance of a strong jaw, which is generally thought of as an attractive feature on men in particular.

Most facial implants require one week or less time off of work, so they are relatively easy to recoup from for most individuals. Regardless of the type of facial implant a person elects to get, the goal and end result is generally facial harmony and symmetry. The results of a facial implant can be very dramatic, although any person considering this type of surgery should be careful to keep his or her expectations regarding the surgery reasonable.
