A skin tags is a common, benign condition which consists of a bit of skin that projects from the surrounding skin and may appear attached to the skin. Skin tags are small, soft, flesh-colored growths that protrude from your skin. They are generally harmless. Skin tags are also commonly found on the eyelids and around the eye. Skin tags usually appear on people as they age. They are actually quite common in people over 60, more common in women than in men. They are skin coloured or darker and range in size from 1mm to 5cm. They are most often found in the skin folds (neck, armpits, groin). They tend to be more numerous in obese persons. Skin tags at first may appear as tiny soft bumps on the skin.
One form of treating skin tags is readily available and is applied topically on to the area either using a Q-tip or your finger. It uses anti-viral oils which have been proven to effectively and gently remove skin tags. One oil used is tea tree oil but keep in mind this is very concentrated and it must be used a few times a day for the skin tag to be eliminated. When using such a product it is important that you read the instructions that come with it fully. A second home remedy for skin tags is to increase one's B vitamin dosage.
Acrochordons are flesh-coloured pedunculated lesions which occur in areas of skin folds. They are tiny skin protrusions, and may have a small narrow stalk connecting the skin bump to the surface of the skin. They are usually painless and do not grow or change. They do not need treatment.
Removed skin tag with an instrument providing a small of amount of electrical current.
Chromium polynicotinate can also be taken and is sold under the name Natrol Chrome Mate.
It is also advised that after the skin tags removal the anal region should be kept clean most of the time. Small bits and pieces of fecal debris need to be cleaned as it could cause some bacterial infection. If there is itching and irritation in the anal region, see your health care provider to make sure that you get the right treatment needed. The previous anal problem or previous inflammatory lesion in the anal area could contribute to the skin tags to develop but most of the time it just sits there.
One of the most common skin tag removal methods involves using liquid nitrogen to “freeze off” the desired flap of skin, a procedure known as cryotherapy. Previously, doctors applied the freezing agent directly to the skin tags, but cold blisters can appear on the surrounding skin if the liquid nitrogen accidentally comes into contact with it. For this reason, most doctors now submerge the tips of special forceps in the liquid nitrogen. Next, they clamp the skin tag for approximately fifteen seconds to freeze it. After approximately a week, the skin tag will fall off on its own. Although this procedure usually only causes a bit of a stinging sensation in patients, some doctors give a shot of local anesthesia to dull pain.
