What is the Cause of Bad Breath?

If you are a sufferer of bad breath for any length of time you will begin to notice a negative impact to your personal life, love life, and your professional life.

Since most people will not candidly inform you that you have bad breath you can be sure that they are talking about you to others behind your back and that they will begin to avoid you. This is an embarrassing fact of life for those who suffer this common issue and do not take the actions necessary to get rid of it. But what exactly is the cause of this social imperfection?

Common Causes of Bad Breath

For most people their worst smelling breath is in the morning when they first wake up. Brushing your teeth may help keep your breath in check for a few hours but as the day progresses the smell may slowly return to your mouth and make other people run for cover.

Often times bad breath is caused by situations that you have direct cotrol over. For example if you have a nice italian meal loaded with garlic or onions you will more than likely notice a taste in your mouth that you can be sure others will notice as well. Another common self-inflicted form of poor breath comes from smoking cigarettes or cigars or from extensive use of alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, and liquor.

Other times bad breath can be caused by occasional actions. For examples, many people use gum, breath spray and other types of breath fresheners to mask the effects of their halitosis. This is another name that is given to bad breath.

If you use breath fresheners and the underlying cause of your halitosis is associated with poor dental hygiene or certain foods you have eaten you will find that these temporary solutions will not last long. And in no time at all the horrid smell will return.

Those who suffer from chronic bad breath are known to have the worst case of halitosis. This is characterized by a persistent odor that emanates from your mouth or your nose.

Most people who suffer with chronic bad breath tend to have excellent oral hygiene and really do not know what to do resolve their condition.

The most common form of halitosis is caused by bacteria that is naturally present in your mouth. The bateria feeds off of the food particles that are left behind from your last snack or meal. And are oftem times lodged between your teeth.

There are many ways you can fight the effects of these bacterium. One is using a good toothbrush that will get in between your teeth. ANother useful tool is a or a water pick. Many people neglect the inside of their teeth as well as their back teeth when they are brushing and flossing. A little attention there will go a long way toward resolving your condition.

As a rule of thumb you should make sure that you brush your teeth for five minutes or more on a regular basis. Any less time and you are not reaching all the places in your mouth that may be a potential cause for bad breath. You also need to be aware that all toothpastes and mouthwashes are not created equal.

Some products that are marketed for oral hygiene care actually increase the the problem rather than eliminating it. So when you shop for oral hygiene products make sure that you select products that contain baking soda and peroxide as their primary ingredients.

These two products can help to eliminate the causes of bad breath and allow you to feel more confident when you are having face to face conversations with colleagues or someone you want to get to know better.
