Free Magic Tricks - Mind Reader

This is another great Magic Trick from Scotland. What makes the card trick great is that you can do it with any pack and you do not have to touch the cards until the end of the trick.

How it looks To The Audience

The Magician gives a spectator a deck of cards and then turns his back on the spectator, so he cannot see what the spectator is doing.

He asks the spectator to shuffle the deck and then hold the deck face down in his hand.

He then asks the spectator to think of a number from one to ten. He is to merely think of it and not tell the Magician.

The Magician tells him that once he has thought of the number, then he is to silently deal that amount of cards onto the table and remember the card at that number.

For example, if the number he thought of is five, he would deal five cards onto the table and remember the fifth card.

Once he has memorised the cards, he is asked to place the cards back on to the top of the deck, so his card is back in the same position in the deck.

So, in our example, he would replace the five cards and make sure that his card was back in the fifth position from the top.

He is then told by the Magician to silently remove the same number of cards from the BOTTOM of the deck and place them on the top of the deck.

In our example, the spectator removes five cards from the bottom of the deck and places them on the top of the deck. His card is now the tenth card from the top.

He then squares up the deck and hands it to the Magician, who is still turned away from him.

The Magician turns to face him but keeps the deck behind his back.

The Magician concentrates and appears to be moving cards about behind his back.

After a few seconds, the Magician brings the cards in front of him and tells the spectator he has moved his card back to it's original position.

When the spectator counts five cards off the top of the deck, the fifth card is his card!

How The Trick Is Done

What makes this trick great is that you do not know his number, how many cards he counted from the top, and how many cards he added from the bottom of the deck.

It seems like mindreading - but it is not. The secret is quite simple.

When the spectator gives you the cards behind your back, you merely remove the top card and every second card after that and place them on the BOTTOM of the deck.

So, you would remove the first, third, fifth, seventh, and ninth cards, then place them on the bottom.

Whatever number the spectator has chosen, his card will be back in its original position!

A little miracle!

Final Tips And Advice

Here is an easy way to sort out the cards behind your back. Hold the deck face down in one hand as though you are about to deal the cards. Now push off the first card, face down into your other hand. However place it well up in your hand, towards the thumb end.

Now deal the second card into your hand but place it further down your hand towards the little finger. Keep on doing this until you reach ten.

You can then quite easily pull out all the cards that are in the upper position and place the on the bottom of the deck.

The cards that are left, you place on the top of the deck.
