Poker Game Rules

Omaha poker is a very popular poker game next only to Texas Holdem in terms of popularity. It is similar to Texas Holdem as a result it is simple to pick up for most but perhaps more important is the fact that Omaha is much more action packed, where players bet much more and call much more. This makes the game more exciting and interesting for beginners and pros alike. Omaha is a community poker table game played by two to ten players .To win the game it is necessary to win as many chips possible off one’s opponent.

There are three basic stages the setting, bettings and showdown. The setup is complete when two to ten players are seated on a poker table and the dealer is decided in the same way as Texas Holdem, by giving everyone a card and the one with highest value is the dealer. The game thereafter proceeds in pretty much the same way as Holdem. There are however a few differences firstly each player is given four cards in Omaha instead of two in Holdem; secondly there are more ways of evaluating the winner in Omaha as compared to Texas Holdem.

Before Texas Holdem and Omaha became popular the most commonly played poker table game was seven card stud. Even now stud is considered a pure version of the game as it requires skills similar to those of bridge or Gin. Stud requires two to eight players here too the goal is to win as many chips as possible. Stud can be broken into four sections-settings, the bring, bettings and showdown.

Here there is an additional round which is the bring. In all the various types of poker, there is something to determine how to start the game and where from. In Hold'em or Omaha it starts to the left of the big blind; in Stud it starts with the bring. The player with the lowest value card is supposed to "bring it in".

The player required to bring has two choices before him. He may either bring by making a bet equal to the size of the ante (when the cards have been shuffled, all players must ante. Antes are dead money, which means they go into the pot at once any bets  made would be in addition to the antes.), or else he can complete the bet to the full amount of the small bet. Besides having an additional round there are also other differences between Stud and Omaha.
