The Very Popular HO Model Train

The HO model train is by far the most popular train available on the market. In both European and North American markets, its sales remain the best out of any other scale. Great Britain is one of the only hold outs in the trend, which has caught on in the rest of the world. In Great Britain they still prefer the OO model train over the HO scale. This has not stopped many in Great Britain from creating the 1:87 Scale Society back in 1994. The popularity of the HO scale is not destined to wane any time soon. In fact, it will most likely increase in the future rather than decrease in popularity.

The way the HO model train got its name was by the fact it is almost exactly half of the 0 scale model trains. The 0 scale model trains were every popular in Europe and North America until after World War 1 when model train manufacturers started popping up everywhere in the world. Smaller sizes were demanded by many who did not have the space to house larger trains. Another problem many were facing were they could not afford the larger trains anymore. HO scale became popular by many who simply could not afford anything else.

Layouts of larger areas are possible thanks to the HO model train. It is possible to create a more detailed space to represent twice the size of a 0 scale layout with the same amount of actual space. This is a big benefit to model railroaders as most everyone would like to have the largest layout possible without having to give up a lot of space in order to achieve it. There are many different buildings and landscape details, which can be purchased commercially which will perfectly, match the size of your train. This allows you to create a vast layout in a short period of time.

The details on the HO model train have come a long way over the years. The model railroader is less children and more adults these days. Details are very important to the model railroader making it no surprise the HO scale is so popular for those who are serious about creating the best possible layout. Even those looking to build their own trains have come to love the HO scale because they are able to create detail without having to use a microscope. While being small, the train is not too small to make detail impossible.

Another great feature of the HO model train is how easy they are to use. Those looking to share their train with their children are advised to buy a train in the HO scale. These trains are very durable, while still being fun to watch go around the track. The controls used to control the train can be as simple, or as complicated as you like for them to be. It all depends on how many trains you want on the track and what you want for them to do.

By: David Blackburn | 09/12/2009 | Hobbies
A look at LGB Model Trains through time can provide an interesting insight into the history of the world during the times each model was developed. This is because the onset of these model trains being offered to the public was a reflection of how trains affected the lives of people. It also a reflection of how people romanticized real life passenger trains at the time. At times in both Europe and America passenger trains have been marks of both technology and sophistication.

How To Weather Model Train Scenery

By: David Blackburn | 06/12/2009 | Hobbies
When it comes to weathering, most people only consider the trains and not the model train scenery. If you are purchasing buildings from a store, you will want to weather them as well in order to keep with the appearance. After all, it will look odd for the weathered train to be traveling through a pristine environment. If the train is traveling through the city, the train and the city should both look just as worn by smog and graffiti artists in order to make it look as real as possible.

While there are many different model railroad track plans you can choose from, there are some which most model railroaders will consider the base models. These track plans are something which most every modeler has built at some point, or has seen built in many different ways. Some prefer to stick to one kind of layout rather than switching back and forth between different types. This is a decision you will have to make for yourself in order to decide which is best for you.

The World Of Bachmann Model Trains

By: David Blackburn | 06/11/2009 | Hobbies
Most every model railroader will have heard of Bachmann model trains as they have been around for quite some time. They have not been around for nearly as long as such powerhouses as Lionel, but they are much more respected for the quality of trains they produce. Whereas Lionel produces trains, which are suitable for children and families, the Bachmann line is respected as a train for the serious model railroader.
