Holidays in the Dominican Republic

Traveling to the Dominican Republic during one of their many holiday seasons can put you in the middle of the celebration.  If you like the idea of celebrating with the citizens of the DR, consider going during one of their fun and festive holidays.

When you travel to the Dominican Republic during a holiday, you will get to see the area in a different light.  There will be many festivals and activities you can be a part of, which means you will have even more fun during your vacation.

There are several holidays that are celebrated in the Dominican Republic, which means you will be able to easily plan your vacation in a way you can go during one.  Pick out your favorite holiday and then celebrate in the DR.

If you visit the Dominican Republic on January 1st, you can bring in the New Year with tourists and locals.  You are sure to have a great time at this New Years celebration.  You can then stay until January 6th and enjoy the Catholic Day of the Epiphany.  This is a feast day that celebrates Jesus.  It is an important Christian celebration in the Dominican Republic, and you will be able to be a part of the festivities by visiting during this time.

At the end of January, on the 27th, residents of the Dominican Republic celebrate Duarte’s Day.  Juan Pablo Duarte is considered to be the founding father of the DR.  During Duarte Day, fiestas can be found throughout the Dominican Republic.  This is a great time to visit the DR, as the celebrations are a lot of fun.  Tourists get wrapped up in the intensity and fun of the celebrations.

Duarte Day then leads to the Dominican Republic Independence Day, which takes place on February 26th.  On this day, the people of the DR celebrate the fact they are now an independent nation.  The date shows the time when the DR became independent from Haiti.  If you get to travel to the Dominican Republic during this holiday, take a trip to Santo Domingo, as they have the biggest celebrations.  You will be able to have a great deal of fun with the locals as they celebrate their independence.

April is also a great time for celebration in the Dominican Republic.  For the first half of April, the DR celebrates Semana Santa.  This is Christian Holy Week, and is very important to the area.  Visitors can go to one of the many festivals that take place during this time.  If you visit the Dominican Republic in the first half of April, you will have many festivals to choose from and you will get the opportunity to take part in a tremendous celebration.

August 16th brings about a celebration of pride for those who are in the Dominican Republic.  Restoration Day is used to remember the Dominican Restoration War.  This war occurred between 1863 and 1865.  In the war, citizens of the DR fought against Spain in order to stop the colonization of the Dominican Republic.  This is an incredibly important war in the history of the DR, and you will get to learn about the war and see the joy of the people during the celebrations that take place.

Then, the Dominican Republic ends the year with a Christmas celebration on December 25th.  If you visit the DR during Christmas you will get to take part in the many Christmas festivals that occur during this time.  You will get to celebrate Christmas in a way you have never celebrated while at home.  You will have more fun during the holiday season than you even thought was possible.
