How to Choose the Best Martial Arts Clothing

Before spending loads of money on martial arts clothing, you need to decide which martial arts style you want to do. Each style has its own clothing that is functional. The Gi and belts do more than separate your martial art style and show your rank. They are designed to help you in battle.

Judo:
Judo jackets are normally made of stronger material like cotton. Oftentimes, the jacket is used as a weapon by pulling it to throw the opponent off balance. Full length pants are used and should reach just above the ankle. Cutting off before the ankle ensures proper foot movement. The belt needs to be durable, and the color should reflect your level.

Karate:
Karate jackets should be cotton to absorb sweat during long training sessions. The jacket should be durable but smooth to last long and be comfortable. Strong cotton trousers with a drawstring are recommended. If you get an elastic band, it may exert too much pressure on the abdomen and can break during bouts. The pants need to be strong enough not to tear easily. Again, the belt should be durable and reflect the level of mastery.

Taekwondo:
Jackets in taekwondo should be both durable and comfortable. It is recommended to get a medium thickness cotton Gi. Since kicks are important to taekwondo, the pants are very important. They need to be loose enough to do spinning kicks like a roundhouse. The pants need to be extremely strong and durable to allow for multiple kicks.

Fit:

No matter what martial art classes you are taking, the fit is the most important part. The clothing should not restrict movement in any way. Martial arts clothing should be both comfortable and durable. Try it on to make sure you have a full range of motion before buying. Too tight or too long and you will not be successful in training or sparring.
