There are two sides to everything, even the recession. While we’re constantly reminded of the terrible attributes that the recession has given us, there is a bright side – for me the recession has forced my family back to basics. We’ve had to come together to create our own fun, and before we knew it we were actually enjoying each other’s company. That is exactly what happens with the Elfing Around Elves. This $30 purchase transformed Christmas from focusing on the commercialized “must haves” to their new-found visiting elf friend. The wonder and anticipation of the elves’ nightly adventure was overwhelming. The elf discussion went on all day – between my kids, to me, to the kids in the carpool and everyone on the playground. No longer were the kids begging for this toy or that toy, but more of an excited appreciation of whatever their elf had made for them while the elf was at Santa’s workshop. It was almost as if the real gift was the visit from the elf.
These elves really are magical. These stuffed elves have influenced my children to be grateful rather than having a feeling of entitlement.
Christmas has gotten out of control on so many levels. Who knew a $30 elf could teach values, and bring more joy and memories to my kids than an over-priced toy, which usually ends up broken and tossed to the side. Just because you’re being thrifty this Christmas doesn’t mean it can’t be the best, most meaningful Christmas yet!
