The Migration is a massive movement of vast herds of animals, usually occurring in April or May the Thousands upon thousands of Wildebeest and Zebras are seen moving across the central plains westward and Northward in search of grasses and water. To watch the Scenario is of remarkable and inspiring sight.
Apart from the great herds of Wildebeest and Zebras also found in the Migration are Buffaloes, Elands, different kind of Antelopes and number of Predators and circling above them the Vultures and the birds of preys.
In the calving season(depending on raining season), late January through mid of March the herds of Wildlife concentrate at the Ndutu and Salei plains (South Eastern Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area),Almost ready to start the Migration, a constant search for food and water.
During April and May the depleted plains are unable to sustain the endless herds, the Migration sweeping to the West and North, moves from short grass plains of the Southern Serengeti /Ngorongoro Conservation Area to the long grass plains and woodland of the Serengeti Western corridor, almost to the Lake Victoria(Lake Nyanza)
June to October, the Migration has entered in the Western corridor ready to cross to Mara river, a final barrier from the short sweet grasses of the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
In November the arrival of the short rains call the Migration Southward towards southern Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area(Lake Ndutu), early in the year they once again give birth. The circle of life is complete.
NIGHT GAME DRIVE Fort Ikoma area ,where it borders Serengeti National Park on Northwestern part, night game drive is permitted.
