Mini blinds have been a popular window treatment for a number of years and there is no sign of their popularity waning anytime soon. In addition to there being a large variety of styles of mini blinds the types of mechanisms used to open and close the blinds are equally diverse. These devices range from manually operated cords to more sophisticated ones that are electronically operated.
Mini blinds serve a variety of purposes including blocking the bright warm sunlight, preventing unwanted peekers from peering into your home, as well as adding a certain look or style to your home if you use some of the better quality blinds available. Mini blinds come in such a wide assortment of styles and colors you are sure to find a type that will help compliment your home.
In addition to the wide diversity of colors and sizes mini blinds also come in a large range of styles that allow you to determine how much light is allowed as well as the direction the light. You can also control the direction and flow of breezes coming through your windows just by adjusting the slats of the blinds.
A couple of styles I know of feature slats combined with fabric. One has slats that are situated between two thin layers of fabric that serve to diffuse sunlight when you have the slats open. The other style features slats that are laminated vertically and attached to a layer of fabric to resemble a curtain.
Some of the materials used to make mini blinds include aluminum, vinyl, imitation wood, and even real wood. I prefer wooden blinds because even though they are more expensive they give a rich and elegant look and can be stained or painted to any color to match any home decor. Adding wood blinds can really dress up the look of any room dramatically. I can remember a home that I bought that was a fixer upper. We redid everything of course and one feature was wood blinds in the windows which served to make the home look totally different and the result was a rich look that we hadn't even counted on.
If your budget will not allow for real wood then go with faux wood or blinds made from a composite or synthetic. Another budget minded choice would be aluminum which is also less expensive and durable. Just remember that the lower end blinds will not be able to be custom made, they will only come in certain pre-made sizes.
