What an exciting time in your life, you are expecting a baby. As you are probably learning, babies change your life in many, many ways. Your baby is not even here yet and already your life is becoming busier than ever. Planning for the arrival of your baby involves many steps. There are so many things you need to do to get your home ready for your babies arrival. One fun, yet important step is creating the nursery.
The first thing you should do before you ever set foot in a store or look at a website, is take a look at your finances and set a budget for the nursery. If this is your first baby, you will be absolutely amazed at all the many different things that are available for babies. If you start shopping without a budget in mind you can very quickly spend a small fortune. So, do yourself and your budget a favor and decide what you can afford in advance.
When you start shopping for furniture for the nursery, the first thing you will need is a crib. Be aware that many cribs are available that are made to be converted into a toddler bed and/or a full size bed. There are also changing tables available that can later be used as a dresser. This onvertible furniture is budget friendly in that it will grow with your child and while may cost more initially than a standard crib, will save money in the long run.
For babies to be such little bitty things, they sure do have a lot of stuff, and you will need some place to put it. So, with all that little baby stuff in mind, storage in the nursery should be high on your list of priorities.
Always keep safety in mind when selecting storage to go in a childs room. Bookshelves should be sturdy and not easily turned over. As soon as your baby begins to crawl around and pull up on things you will realize how important this is. Toys should be stored in boxes or bins without lids. You don't want your little one to be hurt by a lid falling, or worse stuck inside a toy box because the lid fell on them.
The one thing many moms-to-be never consider when setting up the nursery is one of the most important things for you, a comfy place to sit. You will be spending lots of time in the nursery and you will want to be comfortable, especially when it is two o'clock in the morning and your baby has decided that now is a nice time to visit with mom. So, be sure to add a nice soft rocker that you can sink into as you feed your baby. The first night your baby doesn't sleep well, you will be glad you did.
Just remember stick to your budget for your nursery purchases. Choose your nursery furniture wisely. Keep safety, storage and comfort in mind when choosing what to purchase.
