Choosing free standing electric cookers

Free standing electric cookers are a neat, easy to install appliance for the family kitchen. Whilst they do need hard wiring and can’t just be plugged in to a normal socket, free standing electric cookers don’t need much by way of installation. They don’t need to be built into your worktops and they don’t need a gas safety registered engineer for installation. Therefore, relatively quickly you can have a new cooker installed in your kitchen.

Electric cookers have several benefits over gas one of which is the fan oven.

Electric fan ovens

Electric cookers tend to have more cooking options in the oven department including a fan, defrost function and slow cook setting.

The benefit of heating an electric oven with a fan is that the entire cavity is heated to the same temperature. This is different to a conventional oven which is heated from the bottom and top but because hot air rises, it causes the hottest part of the oven to be the top shelf. It generally means food will cook at different speeds depending on where in the oven they are placed. Whilst this can be beneficial if you’re cooking a Sunday roast where the meat and Yorkshire puddings require different temperatures for optimum cooking, it often means half the meal is done, while half is not.

Electric hobs

While electric hobs aren’t as favoured by professional cooks as super-responsive gas hobs they still have their benefits. Ceramic electric hobs in particular are very easy to clean. Their smooth surface has few nooks and crannies meaning food and grime has nowhere to get stuck. To clean a ceramic hob, simply wait for it to cool, then wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Solid plate electric hobs are slightly more difficult to clean and aren’t as aesthetically pleasing as their ceramic counterparts. However they are still safer than gas hobs because there is no chance of a gas leakage should the flame go out.

Which specification?

Free standing electric cookers come in many different specs, from the cost effective, easy to use, to the all singing, all dancing professional models.

One model of choice is the basic Beko S502W; a cost effective single electric cooker that does what it says on the tin. Or alternatively, upgrade to a Beko D533W for fan cooking and a double oven.

Kid Grooming is Key to Kid Health

By: Soophott Lert | 23/11/2009
Learning good grooming habits is an important part of growing up. Children should be taught from a very young age how to clean themselves properly and regularly. Kid grooming is a little different than grownup grooming, though. For one thing, kids tend to get into messes that most adults never go near. Mud puddles, tall grass, and sticky sweets are kid magnets and can leave kids dirty from head to toe.
