By having more family gatherings you will be surprised how close a family can become. Don’t wait till the major holidays, Christmas, Easter, Independence Day, and others to have a barbeque or have a great family sit down dinner.
Take some time in your busy schedule to plan a dinner with the family at least every month or every other month. If you don’t want to make a dinner, then have everyone bring something for pot luck. By planning by themes you can designate somewhat, what they are to bring. For example if you want a Hawaiian themed dinner with barbequed chicken and pineapples. Tell some of the family to bring some décor, that you can set out, such as leis and maybe a tiki torch.
Don’t be afraid to ask other members to bring items. You will be surprised how most are more than welcomed. By spreading the cost, it makes it more fun and then you are not caught holding the buying bill!
Planning ahead for a family dinner can also save you time later and money. If you purchase items that are on coupon for your dinner then you will find you are saving more. An easy method you can use to plan ahead is making a list, first start with a theme. Write this list on the top of a page. Then from your list you then can write down what you wish to serve. Then from your list you can take items of what you want to serve and give them to other family members, then from that you are left with what you will serve.
Using this method will cut down on your lengthy grocery list. You will find this method works for all holidays as well. A little bit of planning will save fuss in the end!

My husband can't seem to make adoption decisions
By: wanda | 28-07-2007
My husband can't seem to make a decision on our plans to adopt. Some of his concerns are ligitimate some seem crazy. He says he needs to make more money (true), I'm not healthy enough (crazy). I'm 36, he's 39 We have a 12 year old child. We've been married 4 years I can't have kids. He was a more or less a single father when I met him. His last wife went through what sounds like a extreme post-partum depression and he says that having to step in and do almost all of the child care and housework even though she didn't work this led to such resentment that it destroyed their marriage. She also gained abou a hundred pounds and I wonder what part that played. I've met the woman and I think she was crazy from the start. The problem is he's driving me and himself crazy now. I'm going nuts because I feel like he's comparing me to his ex. I've had a mild depression and I'm not the best house wife, but I'm the bread winner. I'm a good stepmom and I've been very patient. We've been here trying to take the next step for six months. Our initial application has been accpeted and now there is a year of classes, home study, referrals and other big decisions to make. Sadly I've gained weight, almost 60 pounds, we've agreed that this has to be left out of our decision, but he keeps bringing it up. Any suggestions? I've told him how important this is to me, but I haven't threatened to leave him or anything.
