Living on charity.
Everyone of us must earn his own living. He is bound to maintain his family which he has established. It is the duty of each of us to earn money with which we should be able to run our family administration and at the same time we should be able to bring children on this earth and it is also our duty to see that those children are brought up, they are given proper education, proper training and then proper adjustment in life. When our elders had been establishing this family system, they were attaching all these duties on the man who is calling himself as the head of that family. If his wife and children also start helping him, it is good, but he should not wait for them. If he is the head, he should prove that he is fulfilling his duties to the entire satisfaction of each member of his family and the people around him should also say that this man is competent to maintain his family. The people who fail are not respected by the people living around us because the person who is not in a position to maintain his family is a failure.
When we talk of maintenance, we must understand that we are earning money for the maintenance of our family. We should not beg from others nor we should turn a child of us as a beggar. We should not live on charity. We may be interested in establishing a religious place, but at the same time we must know that we should not live on money collected in that religious place because these are not your earnings. These are collections for the religious place and that money could be spent only on the maintenance of that religious place and the people who are utilizing this money for their personal use or they are maintaining their families with this money, they are destroying the future of all who belong to this family and who are utilizing this money.
If we get a job in a religious place, that could be another thing because we are in service to serve that that religious place and we had not established that religious place. The professionals who are appointed at these religious places are having a right to receive their monthly pay and they can maintain their family with that money because in this case this money is not as charity, but they are putting in service and getting money as salary or wages. But the people who had established that religious place just to earn their own livelihood, they are committing a sin and they must avoid to utilize this money for bringing up their children with this money because this money would not allow these children to prosper and live a dignified life.
The first principle with the Gursikhs is that they should believe in the principle of 'Kirrt Karro' means work and earn your livelihood. This principle should be adopted by all on this earth and everyone should work and earn money for use in his family.
No one should live on charity.

My son had a fight with his friend and through him out of the house. His friend was getting married the next week. His friend told him that he didn't want him at his wedding. My husband and I were also invited to this wedding. I wanted to still attend the wedding but my husband said he wouldn't go. My son was furious when he found out that I was thinking about going to the wedding without him, so my husband and I didn't go. I feel that by not going to the wedding we condoned my son's behavior which can be abusive. My husband doesn't see it this way. How often should an adult daughter call home?
As a mom, I feel she should give her mom and dad a call once a week. I have left 2 messages on her cell phone in the last couple of weeks and she has never returned the calls. She is on the road with her job. I was concerned because she was flying into the area where Hurricane Gustav is. She has never called to say she has arrived safely, etc.
Do you think I am expecting too much???
I would like to ask her why she never calls but don't know whether I should or not?
Any advice you can give me would be most appreciated.
