If moving to the next town or city were as difficult as climbing up a tree, moving greater distances like across counties or states would be like going up a sequoia. The great distance between origin and destination worsens many of the problems that movers must face and which moving companies are paid to address.

Have Some Trust

While the reputation and trustworthiness of the moving company you’ll hire is a major factor for local moves, it’s the major factor for long distance ones. That’s because you’re counting not only on their standing and feedbacks but also on their experience in the industry. While cheap moving companies might abound in your area, a reputable moving company with experience in moving house across long distances is a very difficult thing to find.

Why is the trustworthiness and experience of the relocation company you hire so important? For one, there’s the long distance. You have to make sure that the trip goes smoothly and that none of your possessions are damaged along the way. The movers are going to move personal and valuable items across a very large distance. Of course you would want someone whom you know and trust to handle those items.

Protection – The Necessity of Moving Supplies

Although a reputable company could assure you of almost no hitches on moving day, it’s almost impossible to guarantee that your things will make it from Point A to Point B unscathed. This becomes even more of a concern when moving long distances because your items spend more time on the road. Thus, there is an increased possibility of damage due to the multiple handling.

By packing and wrapping your things with protective layers, you could avert all these problems. Not only do you protect your stuff, but you also ensure that they’re packed properly because – let’s face it – some of the movers aren’t really that careful, and the job is best done by yourself.

For wrapping up your possessions, here are some moving supplies that you should probably pick up from the crafts store:

1. Newspaper – lots and lots of newspaper; if you don’t want to use newspaper, you could just get kraft paper instead.
2. Bubble wrap
3. Several kinds of tape – masking tape (that white kind), packaging tape and clear tape would be a good start.
4. Rope or twine
5. Padding; you could just use crumpled newspapers, but Styrofoam balls and air bags work great, too.

In case you can’t find these in a store, the nearest moving company office should have them in ready supply. The internet is also a good place to look for these moving supplies.

When you pack your things in readiness for relocation, make sure that you do the following:

1. Cover the delicate surfaces. If there’s a glass panel you’re bringing along, you would have to cover the glass part with several layers.
2. For scratch-prone objects, put some paper first. This will act as a buffer between the surface and outside elements.
3. Label everything. This tells you and the movers helping you out where each item came from and should go, thus keeping the entire move more organized.

Moving from afar is difficult, yes, but it’s still moving when you get down to brass tacks. It just takes a lot more preparation to make ensure that moving would be as smooth and hassle-free as possible.
