Protecting Children Online -Should You Monitor Or Block Content

Let's face it; being a parent is a tough job and computers and the internet has brought us a mixed blessing. It's great that there is a way for kids to play games, find out information, do their homework, talk with their friends, and get caught up in X-rated websites and cartoon anime nudes............. Whoah, it actually does happen some of the time.

Shall we give one rousing cheer for progress? This is why parental software that provides blocking and monitoring are necessary. As parents, we are responsible for keeping our kids safe and the Internet is a dangerous place.

Net Nanny Blocks Like A Football Star, PC Tattletale Tells All

Kids do not always recognize the dangers at first and they don't ever tell their parents everything. So software like PC Tattletale and Net Nanny are perfect babysitters...and yes, it does tattle. Blocking sites and using filters is what Net Nanny does and this works really well for younger kids that are not surfing the net, but being protected from inappropriate pop ups and content. The smaller children just want access to their games and they are good to go.

Blame It On The Hormones

If things are blocked for older kids, that makes them more curious, and all they have to do is go to a friend's home, log on, and try to find out what was being blocked. The older kids will be more attracted to what they now see as "forbidden computer fruit".

When parents told us not to see certain things, what did we do? Of course- we just had to take a peek or try it out some of the time. Tell an adolescent not to do something and you might as well be waving a red flag in front of that raging bunch of hormones. With PC Tattletale... let them spend hours online, I know what they are doing and this gives me peace of mind.

The Tattler Will Rat Them Out

PC Tattletale and other parent monitoring software are different from the content blockers. These are the programs that will let you know every move your children are making on the less restricted computers. This is the monitoring that really does rat your kids out. If they hit a key, I have a record of it. Their sites, chats and messages; even emails can be monitored for appropriate behavior. The software lets you do this without being anywhere around the kids. You receive the information on your computer and can check it anytime. You don't even have to alert the older ones to the fact that you are watching them. You have had your eagle eyes watching them all their lives so this is nothing new. This monitoring allows me to check up on my kids and keep them safe.

NetNanny For The Younger Crowd and Monitor The Older Ones

The upshot is this...Net Nanny and other blocking programs will work for kids up to about 9 or 10. This program does just what it says...it blocks out the inappropriate content. For older kids get the parental monitoring software and use it...in this case, it is better safe than sorry..
