Ways to Remove Spit-Up Stains From Baby Clothes

When you are expecting a new baby, shopping for baby items especially clothes can be really fin and entertaining, especially for first time parents. With a wide selection of baby clothes in the market it is easy to fill in the little one's closet before he or she is born. As you might expect, sooner or later the baby will do a lot spitting on his or her clothes, making you wince when you see the stains on the nice clothes you bought for him or her. Fear not, following these steps will help you restore the stained baby clothes good as new.

Choosing the Right Fabric

Before you pay for that nice outfit, make sure to read the fabric labels. The recommended fabrics are those that use natural fabrics such as cotton as they are naturally breathable. Furthermore, baby clothes made from cotton are easy to care for and have a lasts long when being washed properly. The resiliency of the fabric is a determining factor for removing stains effectively. Cotton responds well to stain removing agents and is often recommended by companies who manufacture stain removing solutions. It is also important not to over dry the cotton clothes in the dryer as it may easily damage the fabric. Remove the clothes from the dryer while they are still quite damp and hang them on clothes line to air dry.

Choosing the Right Detergent

When you go to the grocery store, you will notice that there is a wide variety of detergent on the shelves. Get the ones that are specifically made for baby clothes. Unlike adults, babies are most likely to get rashes, especially when we use certain products with harsh formulas. Detergents that are designed for baby clothing are generally free from dyes and perfumes. These special detergents are also a bit costly so it is better to wash other family members clothing separately. One more thing, instead of using a fabric softener, you might consider using a half cup of white vinegar as it is a natural fabric softener and also good at removing residual detergent that are left on the clothes.

Choosing the Right Stain Removal Agent

Assuming that you have chosen the right fabric and the right detergent, we can now discuss the right stain removal agent that you could use for the baby's garments. Before washing the baby's clothing you need to pre-treat the stains first. Otherwise, there is a big possibility for the stain to become permanent making it more difficult to remove. Milk spit-ups are classified as protein based stains which means, we need to break the fatty acids with the use of surfactants that are usually found in stain remover pre-treat solutions. Let it sit for two to three minutes to let the fatty acids release the protein part of the stain. Afterwards, you may now apply an oxygen-based stain remover to get rid of the protein stain. Let is sit for a couple of minutes as well. Once it is done, you may now wash the clothes as you normally would. After the wash cycle is completed, check the stains if it is still noticeable. If you can still see the stain, repeat the steps from the beginning until it is finally removed. The moment the stain is fully eliminated you may now put the clothes in the dryer.

Follow these steps and you will surely keep the stains under control.
