What is Angie's List and Should You Bother Joining It?

One of the more difficult tasks you face as a homeowner is finding a reliable and trustworthy contractor to handle the repairs or construction. This one step can either save you thousands of dollars or turn your house into a money pit.

Many companies do a good job but have a bad relationship with customers. Other companies excel at customer service but provide mediocre services. Just what is the best way to find the right company to do the job for you?

Angie's List is a thriving company that helps consumers research to find the perfect contractor for their needs. Subscribers of Angie's List get access to a list of reliable, reviewed companies that provide service ranging from landscaping to surgery. The company was founded in 1995 by Angie Hicks in Columbus, Ohio. Since '95 the company has grown from 1,000 users to 750,000 users across the nation. It is easy to contact Angie's List by phone by calling toll-free 1-866-945-2889. After informing Angie's List what service they need, a list of companies will be compiled and provided that have a history of providing reliable service.

The company even provides a client resolution process to ensure their list of service providers has only the best companies on it. Angie's List helps customers and service providers settle disputes through mediation. Angie's List tracks consumer reports including the number of times a provider resolves customer disputes or ignores to address an issue.

There are a large number of services categories in the Angies List membership. Consumers use Angie's List to find reputable plumbers, painters, roofers, dentists, physicians, surgeons, fitness trainers and more. Consumers gain access to all this information for varying fees. Angie's List charges a $10 signup fee for all new users and offer monthly plans or annual plans of one, two, three, and four year lengths. Monthly plans cost $5.95, while the four year plan costs $150.

So is Angie's List worth the subscription? Many people, especially those moving to know locations, have a hard time finding new doctors, good child care, or reliable maintenance companies. It is possible to find all these things in the phone book without paying any subscription fees. However, there isn't a phone book in the world that has experienced the services of the companies contained within. Angie's List offers consumer feedback on all the companies listed, giving the consumer piece of mind in choosing their next doctor, landscaper, or contractor.
