Alright, alright...what exactly is positioning?

Positioning simply put is:

The process of defining your target market and what they're searching for then inserting yourself and your product in the pathway of their search.

Alright, now you understand the definition of positioning…but how does it work?

Defining your target market is easy, all you need to do is understand your product and the benefits it offers.

Then, all you have to do is focus in on the specific crowd of people who are searching for those benefits. Understand where they search to find the benefits you have to offer.

Is it the internet? In magazines? I guarantee it.

The next step in positioning is to place yourself and your product in the pathway of your target audience's search.

This is accomplished by using effective MLM marketing tools: the phone, the internet, the written word, etc in order to insert yourself between your target audience and the benefits in which they are looking for.

For example...

Let's say you're marketing a weight loss product.
Okay...now, who is in your target market? Skinny people? No!

With a weight loss product your target market consists of people who are looking to shed a few pounds. All you do is place yourself and your product in front of those people. Does that make sense?

The mistake so many people make in MLM marketing is that they never attempt to define a target market however they assume everyone wants or needs their product which make things very difficult.

Without defining a target market you fall victim to MLM marketing techniques like the 3 foot rule, marketing to friends and family, inviting people to hotel meetings, and other techniques that waste a lot of time.
