Despatch items when you say you will – as soon as possible is the best policy. Communicate with your buyer, telling them when their goods have been sent. Never state in your listing that you are not responsible for items lost in the mail. Claiming for any lost or damaged items through Royal Mail/your courier is probably easier than you think. 

You may also want to offer a returns policy. Make all terms clear. Do not disguise your postage costs or service. If you intend to dispatch the item in no more than 2 working days via Royal Mail on a second class service, then say so. Many such things are becoming mandatory on eBay.
