The most challenging problem that home based business owners face is attracting enough traffic to their websites in order to generate appropriate
sales to earn a reasonable income.
To overcome this problem a lot of marketers turn to traffic exchanges. A typical traffic exchange will allow you to post your webpages and either buy credits or earn them by viewing other members webpages. You can then without doubt get a lot more traffic to your website, but conversion rates will be very low as most people are simply viewing your webpage as a way to earn a credit for their own webpage promotion.
Webpages are viewed for between six and twenty seconds depending on the system of the traffic exchange, and many traffic exchange users surf several exchanges on different tabs on their browsers, so they may actually only be viewing an individual website for a second or two.
That is why savvy marketers do not post long sales letter style webpages on traffic exchanges. Instead they use very basic pages (called "squeeze pages") which have a bold simple but compelling message, and an invitation to receive more information via an email registration form, or a simple click-through button.
Obviously, with so much competition on the traffic exchanges, a message must stand out and grab the traffic exchange server's attention and arouse his curiosity. For that reason, the key to a responsive splash page is its headline, and not how nice and well designed the splash page looks. Quite often a plain and simple splash page with a white background and a big red headline will knock the socks off one of those sophisticated custom designed pages with graphics and video built in.
The best combination is probably to use a punchy headline and repeat the headline in a voice-over on your splash page video; that way, the message will be conveyed in more than one medium - the spoken and the written word.
Obviously, you must consider the kind of market that you are appealing to with your offers. Consider what type of people are likely to be surfing traffic exchanges and try to make your offers match their needs.
The best way to improve your results with splash pages is to make two versions and split test them. To do this you will need to use an ad tracker such as Hits Connect or Adtrackz.
With a good ad tracker you will be able to add code to your splash page URL so that you know which splash page is being clicked on and which traffic exchange generated the click. This will show you where you are getting your traffic from and which splash page is more effective.
Using a splash page to promote your Internet home business can be very effective. With the proper marketing your sales will increase and your business will succeed.
