Victims of Employment Scams Speak Out On Work At Home Scams
In revealing the many scams that are on the internet today as aired on 20/20 News, Jim Avila and Ann Varney did an excellent job of reporting the scams that are being offered on the internet today.  If you missed it, you can read it online at http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Economy/story?id=7014111&page=1 .  It was an excellent segment, and my heart goes out to the women who were interviewed, because I have a Work At Home business.  Like the ladies interviewed, I just want to make a little extra money working from home.   Before I found my current work at home opportunity, I too came across too many ads that looked to good to be true.  I am still astonished at some of the ads I come across today, when I am researching products for my website.  However, in retrospect, not all situations are bad.  There are many good work at home opportunities that are legitimate business opportunities. Your not going to make a million dollars in one year, your not even going to make $100,000.00 your first year.  Those are the advertisements you want to stay away from. 

My Website - My Choice
One program that I researched; and then became a part of is Plug-In Profit Site.  It included a free website, which I knew I would need to run a business, that I pay hosting fees for.  I choose this program due to its pre-design development.  However, before I choose it, I researched it.  I found that it was a legitimate business, and is used by thousands of individuals to run their home business situations. I had choices to decide if I wanted to be affiliated with the programs on the site - it was not a requirement - it was a choice.  In my research I found them to be sources ran by real people, people that you can call on the phone, people that answer your emails. They are sources that one would need to have a successful home business.  Not like Angle, the actress in the ABC News broadcast.

I received a call from my sponsor immediately, we are real people who are dealing with other real people, we work together to help each other.  For those of us who have been in business a lot of years and who help others establish their businesses, we do this through training, information and mentoring. 

Mainly, I want you to know that not all situations online are bad.  You do have to do your research. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. 

Here are a few steps you should take to minimize being taken advantage of:

1. You can do a Google search for articles to check out the company behind the offer to see if there are complaints against the company you are considering working for before signing up

 2. Avoid any opportunities where you cannot easily get in touch with someone from the company.  Even when you do get in touch, realize there are ways to make things appear legal.  Get a phone number where you can call them, preferably a customer support phone number - then call them back. 

3. If the offer appears too good to be true it probably is. Remember, no program is going to help you make a million dollars your first year - just be realistic.

4. Do not auto respond, give yourself time to decide,  If you have a feeling indicating this is not a good choice for you, trust that feeling. A feeling like this is likely the best indicator.

Do not be disillusioned by the 20/20 News broadcast, do your research, make good choices, set your goals and you can have a real work at home job.
