Build a Home Windmill - Harness Windmill Power For Your Home

Home windmills come in many different shapes and sizes. Some are built merely for looks and serve as yard decorations, while other are fully functional and are used to pump water or generate electricity. There are many companies that sell small windmill systems for your home, but more and more individuals are finding that they can build a home windmill by themselves.

Building a home windmill is not nearly as daunting a task as it might appear at first glance. Over the past 10 years there has been much research done in regard to wind energy, and today's homeowner can benefit from many of these advances. Improvements in technology for harnessing wind power, the wide spread availability of low cost and light weight building materials, along with windmill kits and step-by-step instructions, now make it more and more attractive to consider a home built windmill as an option.

First things first, let's assume that you have done your due diligence, and you have determined that a residential windmill or home windmill is practical where you live. Do you purchase an entire turn-key solution, part of a system, or build one yourself? Small wind turbines or home windmills can be purchased from around $6,000 to $22,000 installed, depending on the size and number of bells and whistles. While these systems can often greatly reduce your home energy bills, it still may take years for a purchased system to pay for itself.

If you are somewhat mechanically inclined your may want to consider building your own home windmill. Several companies now offer inexpensive training kits geared toward the do-it-yourselfer. Earth4Energy is a leading company in this field. They offer a detailed instruction manual and training videos that provide step-by-step examples. By following these carefully laid out steps, home windmills, and even solar panels can be built for hundreds of dollars instead of thousands.

While these home-built wind power systems may not be as fancy or powerful as the purchased ones, they still may be just what you need to get started in producing your own home energy from wind power. Whether you decide to purchase a home windmill system or build one on your own, you owe it to yourself to take a serious look at wind power. It may be just what you need to significantly lower your home energy costs. Although just a dream maybe 15 years ago, today, home wind power is a reality for more and more families around the world.
