No one likes to swim in a freezing cold pool, I know I wouldn't. Let's go over some hints and tips to help you maintain heat in your pool.
-
Cover your pool. The proper pool cover, kept in place when the pool is not in use, will significantly reduce water lost to evaporation. A proper pool cover cuts heat loss by at least 50-70%. A solar pool cover allows the pool to collect heat from the sun, saving on fuel bills.
-
Only heat when you use. If you use your pool only on weekends or special occasions, don't heat between uses. Turn your pool heater off or set your thermostat at 68 degrees or lower depending on the period between uses. Turn your pool heater on the night before, or the morning of day use, depending on the heat up time necessary. If you go away on a trip, turn your heater off.
-
Maintain your heater. A properly maintained pool heater is an energy-efficient appliance.
-
Backwash only when needed. Be sure to follow the filter manufacturer's instructions concerning backwashing. Backwashing more frequently than necessary wastes water, while failing to backwash when needed wastes energy.
