Choosing the best vacuum cleaner for your home

It is a fact of nature that the floors in our home gather dirt over time, whether it is mud tracked in from outside or simply dust particles falling to the ground and getting caught in our carpets.  The trouble with dirty floors is that not only do they look unpleasant but they can start to smell unpleasant too, this is why we have vacuum cleaners.

Vacuum cleaners have been around for decades and in the past ten years alone they have evolved into more technological and convenient forms that suit any home.  With a wide range of famous brand such as Dyson, Electrolux and Hoover it can be tough to know which brand let alone which model to go for.

Many people have a preference and there are a wide range of styles to choose from, some people may choose their vacuum cleaner by the price tag, some will go for the compact sized model while others may opt for one with a large capacity for dirt.  You may not be familiar with all the types of vacuum cleaner available so it’s best to find out using the following list.

Upright Vacuum cleaners

These have become the most popular type of vacuum cleaner available.  They have higher suction power and are also very manoeuvrable.  Larger models can be tough to turn and can be heavy to move, this is why some models will have a wand attachment to allow you to get into tight corners.

Canister Vacuum cleaners

Canister vacuum cleaners tend to be smaller and are ideal for small flats or houses with not much storage space for a bulkier vacuum cleaner.  It also has a long hose so that you will not need to move the vacuum around as much.  The only problem with canister vacuum cleaners is that the hose can get blocked and tough to unblock.

Cordless vacuum cleaners

This variety of vacuum cleaners has capitalised on the main annoyance with vacuum cleaners that they can get tangled up or have a cable that is too short.  Cordless vacuum cleaners tend to be smaller and less powerful but are convenient for tasks which may be tough to do with a corded vacuum such as cleaning the inside of a car.  The only problem is that the batteries will eventually wear out and need replacing.

Robot Vacuum cleaners

The latest addition to the vacuum cleaner world is robotic vacuum cleaners.  These little gadgets take all the effort out of vacuuming by doing it by themselves.  The first time you run one of these it goes around a room plotting the walls and obstacles so that next time it knows where it can and can’t go.  From then on the vacuum can be set to clean up when you want it to without having to worry about it yourself.
