Choosing the Right Dining Table

When it comes down to furniture, it can be extremely hard to figure out what you want; and in wading through the seas of dining tables, it can be surprisingly difficult to find the one that works for you. All dining tables are made for one purpose really, but not all dining tables are created equal. You've got round ones, square ones, oval ones, rectangular ones; there are high end tables, thrift tables, arty tables, utilitarian tables and even tables with no legs. You can even go for the built-in look if you've got an especially small space to contend with.

What is important is to remember is that the dining table is often the center of gathering. It is where you come together with family and friends to eat, drink and be merry. It should be something that fits your personality and style and it should also be inviting. Also consider that the dining table shouldn't overwhelm your room-if you've got a smaller dining room, a round table does wonders, but a rectangular affair may end up taking up far too much space-keep the dimensions of your space in mind. Besides that, pick something that fits you. Here are some popular styles to choose from.

Many homemakers are opting for a shabby chic look. This often means throwing together something modern and cool using used or thrifted objects. For instance you can DIY a dining room table using an old door. All you have to do is find an old door in need of some recycling. Paint it and add some gloss. Even consider putting in some paper cut outs with unique art or design in the door panels. You can buy the legs from a home repair store or some place like Ikea. Or you can simply find an old table from a thrift store or an estate sale and redo it. Repaint in a bright cheery color. Or consider tiling it to create a cool mosaic. Mix things up by buying mix matched chairs and paint them different shades of the same color. Add custom made seat covers that can be easily removed.

Here's another idea, a dining table made out of original slabs of Korean flooring. These have a natural beauty and rustic appeal. It's unlike anything else out there. These tables are also green because they are made from repurposed material. These dining tables really have character.

An angled-leg dining table gives your room a exotic accent. It's simple yet out of the ordinary. This look is perfect for someone wanting to combine the unique with the rustic.

To make your dining room more open, place mirrors at eye level of seated diners. It really opens a place up.

Convertible dining tables which can double as a coffee table are useful for smaller spaces like apartments and lofts. These are great for bachelors who like to eat while sitting in front of the TV. It saves space and it's pretty clever.

Counter height tables are great for a bistro sort of feel. It's a modern look that works well with open spaces. Probably not a good idea if you have kids though.

There are a lot more styles, this is just a glimpse; do your homework and pick something you love.
