Living in the city can be tough but so can living in the country! When you are looking to move perform a full property search and consult an estate sales agent to ensure that moving house goes as smoothly as possible.
Whether you prefer city life or the slower pace of the suburbs depends largely on what you are looking for. Each of these areas have their own advantages and disadvantages. The key is to decide what's most important for your needs and the needs of your family.
Cities are naturally associated with a faster pace of life, more things to do, and bigger crowds. There's no denying that there is a better range of activities in a large city. Museums, aquariums, concerts, and plays are all much more readily available. The nightlife, which is often non-existent in the suburbs, can keep you entertained into the early hours of the morning, and can make it much easier to meet people. For children, there is a wider range of clubs and extracurricular activities to join. There is also a greater degree of choice when it comes to what school you want them to attend.
Real estate property in the city can also provide greater convenience. Since space is used more economically, there will probably be quite a few shops just down the street from your home. The daily commute into work will also be considerably shorter. Public transportation is extensive in large cities and may completely eliminate your need to own a car and all the hassles that come with it.
Of course, these advantages come at a price. Cities are noisier, have more pollution, and suffer higher crime rates. If you do choose to use your car in the city, traffic will be considerably worse and you will have to pay for parking in most areas. If you are a light sleeper, you may have difficulty adjusting to the sounds and lights of the city. In addition, some people find the faster pace too hectic, and have a difficult time making connections with other people in a society always on the go.
Suburban life is usually much more relaxed. The neighborhoods are safer for children and may have large yards to play in. Many people spend more time getting to know their neighbors and becoming friends. There is considerably less traffic in suburban areas, and neighbors have a greater tendency to look out for each other. Suburban living also allows you to connect a little more with nature, with less pollution and more green spaces, while still being within driving distance of the city's amenities.
Whether you prefer city or suburb living depends entirely on what you want for yourself and your family. Talking to a real estate agent about what you're looking for may help you make some of these important decisions. There are advantages and disadvantages to both situations, and in the end, the choice is up to you.
