For many years now, we have been told that colours you live with in your home can have a real affect on your emotional and physical states. Now it is time for you to be aware of how different colours have a unique vibration, and how this can notably affect feelings in a room.

I have listed only a few colours, which are the most popular. By using this simple plan, you can select colours, which will balance and harmonise with the function of each room in your family's day-to-day life.

BLUE:
Blue rooms are most often chosen for bedrooms, whether for children or adults. Many of us, who have a ‘meditation room’, do so because its cool energy is soothing, relaxing, serene, and spiritual. Blue facilitates and inspires a quiet meditative state. Colour therapy with blue has been found to reduce blood pressure. Moreover, blue is useful to soothe you to sleep.

GREEN:
The colour green used in a room is very restful but combines an energizing quality. Green is the beautiful colour of nature, still and full of life at the same time. Green transfers equilibrium and unity, curative, and replenishment to a room. Green is often used as a calming colour and in areas for people who are anxious and in need of motivation.

ORANGE:
Orange rooms encourage cheerful, jubilant, shared get-togethers. It is well known, that while an orange dining room can stimulate the appetite, a family room, which is orange, is a wonderful choice for family gathering places. Orange improves celebrations, communication, buoyant feelings, and general cheerfulness.

PURPLE/INDIGO:
Purple is very consoling, sensitive, spiritual, and restful. This splendid colour inspires belief, perception, and faith. Care must be taken as complete rooms painted purple may be overpowering, however, mauve or light violet will offer a very therapeutic and soothing atmosphere.

RED:
In Feng Shui red means luck. A room that is painted red will invigorate,
motivate action and movement, assist fervour, and be compelling and invigorating. For instance, a red exercise room would be extremely energizing. Beware though because a red room can also be fatiguing, overwhelming, and distressing for those who are tense. Try using a colour palette to find other ‘reds’ and ‘pinks’ which are less stimulating. A red bedroom would not be calming or soft, though some red may be exciting and sensual.

WHITE:
White rooms are wonderful and can succeed anywhere when combined with contrasting colours. White is fresh, heartening, and cleansing. It is important to choose accent colours wisely because too much white will emulate an uncomfortable cold, sterilized, disconnected quality. White ceilings are able to reflect light and open up any room.

YELLOW:
Yellow rooms encourage intellectual clarity, orderliness, lucid communicative thinking, and happy energy. Yellow is considered a colour for the logical left side of the brain. Yellow is dazzling and to some extent enlivening, so you shall need to choose this colour with care. Right now, you may be thinking that a yellow office might be intellectually beneficial. However, yellow may not allow restful respite, so you might want to choose another colour and include yellow accents instead of painting all the walls yellow.

These colours are an easy way to brighten up any home or make it as relaxed as you might want. Just choose carefully and each room will assist in either soothing or brightening your day. Happy painting!
